To celebrate Women’s Day, Coinbase has released research into the female presence in the crypto community and the results are fascinating. If you didn’t know, today is Women’s Day, which gives us the opportunity to do something most of us don’t do enough, celebrate the women in our lives and women's achievements across the world throughout history. Giving us time to reflect and acknowledge the merits of women in all fields. Women in Crypto However, perhaps one industry in which they still seem to go relatively unnoticed is the world of cryptocurrencies and blockchain. This is particularly strange as the concept the industry is built around is breaking down borders and pushing boundaries. As such, it is refreshing to see Coinbase take time to give women the spotlight through their latest research. In the research project they undertook alongside Qriously, they spoke to some women involved the industry and discussed all things finance in the age of technology and cryptocurrencies, as well get their opinions on the future of the industry. The research conducted on some of the most involved women in crypto about why they support crypto raised some interesting concepts about the role of crypto both now and going forward in the age of technology. While it revealed a lot of belief in the potential cryptocurrencies to have a positive influence on the world, it also highlighted some eye-opening information about what crypto means to women and why. The Results One of the main results of the report revealed that 93% of college-educated woman thought that technology would have an impact on the financial world. One respondent, Soona Ahmaz of Token Daily stated, “The world is increasingly coming online our money will too.” Many of them also agree that this will be a positive thing for the financial world. What is interesting about this though is how they see that positive influence will come to fruition. A lot of the women see that impact as being directly beneficial to them as a means to gain power over their financial future. Something they feel they lack in a male-dominated world. As it turns out, while 82% of women see financial independence as important to them, just 32% of women do not feel in control of their financial future. Which is a troubling parallel. As it turns out, women see crypto as beneficial to them for exactly this reason, with a large appeal of crypto coming from the opportunities it can open up to them in this respect. 39% of those in the survey stated that cryptocurrency is appealing to them due to the higher level of accessibility it awards them, compared to other financial institutions. Something that will allow them to achieve more of their goals. This concept is best summed up by Olivia Wang of Zhenfund, who mentioned, “Unequal access to financial resources mean unequal access to opportunities.” Something cryptocurrencies seem to be able to award females. As such, this research highlights greatly how females see cryptocurrency fitting in their lives financially, professionally and personally simultaneously. It seems crypto could be the beacon of light for women to free themselves of the financial restraints of yesteryear, and power forward further into their long-awaited complete independence.
