San Francisco based Blockchain technology company Blockstream is now broadcasting entire bitcoin blockchain platform from Space, according to a press release published by the company. Following the launching of its last satellite, Blockstream has now five satellites strategically positioned around Earth to stream the entire bitcoin blockchain network in all major landmasses. "Previously covering North and South America, Europe, and Africa, the addition of the Asia-Pacific region to Blockstream Satellite brings free access to some of the most populous regions of the world," says the press release. Starting in January 2019, users will now be allowed to send and get messages from remote places on the planet through the Blockstream Satellite API. "The Satellite API empowers users to access the Blockstream Satellite network to broadcast data to the whole world, paid for via the Lightning Network!" Blockstream CEO Adam Back also highlighted that there will be nom frontier for communications, mining and cryptocurrencies. “you could set up a bitcoin mining operation in the middle of the desert powered by solar.” According to Chris Cook, head of Blockstream Satellite project, "while satellite communications are traditionally cost-prohibitive, Blockstream Satellite will finally allow developers to adopt satellite communications in their applications." Samson Mow, Blockstream CSO, put context to the move as he said, “Bitcoin has always been about uncensorable money, and now we have uncensorable communications as well.”
